So what was Steve McClaren's reward for failing to take England to Euro 2008? Well he has been appointed as manager of FC Twente in Holland. It comes as no surprise that he wasn't considered for any of the vacant jobs in the UK. He needs to go away from this country to build up his stock again because here in England it is at an all time low. I thought he was grossly talked up when in charge of Middlesbrough - they always spent big and paid out huge wages on mediocre players. He is not a great manager and I never expect him to get another top job at a big club. |

At least he'll be far enough away for us not to notice him. Can you imagine the following scenario though, The Dutch win the Euros with this beautiful flowing football and the country is at a high, the players are at a high, the FC Twente players roll up for pre-season training only to be greeted by the Wally in a Brolly - I can hear the wind coming out of their sails right now... |

I just read this on BBC Radio 1's Newsbeat and I nearly needed a new keyboard after spluttering coffee all over it. Is football management one of those jobs where no matter how bad you were someone will give you another shot because you have 'experience'? |

If only he could start now and leave his roll as summariser for BBC 5Live... |

In a way I'm happy I've not heard him on 5live because I've just left the TV commentary on but that has meant I've been subjected to David Pleat ;o( |
