Italian head coach Roberto Donadoni has left his post this afternoon and it is no surprise. Italy won the World Cup two years ago but here in the Euros they looked a distinctly average side. Most of the players were the same and they just didn't perform. They got lucky getting out of the group stages and I think it is safe to say that they were extremely disappointing. Is the manager completely to blame? No. However the way they played against Spain was pathetic at best and was deserved of a manager getting his P45. |

He just didn't have the talent in the squad. You knew he wasn't going to bearound long as soon aswe heard of that opt out clause that ran out at the end of the Euros. Bit of a win it or else clause really. |

They are talking about Lippi coming back in now. I think missing Pirlo and Guttuso for the Q/F was massive. Aquliani was total garbage and not using Del Piero sooner was a big mistake. |

He was a typical Italian coach. Scared of losing more than desperate to win. Defensive football has not worked in Euro 2008 one jot and that has been clear since the start of the tournament that attacking football was to be rewarded. |

Italy are probably the only team that has had sustained success over the years playing defensively and you know it would've worked better if they had Canavarro playing. Really Donadoni had no real option other than to play defensively because all his best players are defensive. |

Cannavaro was a huge miss I agree but they defended terrifically throughout the whole tournament. They just had very little going forward and Luca Toni forgot what his job was. |

How much of Toni's great year comes from playing on a team that boasts Klose, Ribery and Podolski? When you have the attacking threats that Bayern had last year someone has to score. As much as losing Cannavaro hurt how much did losing Totti hurt too? |

For Luca Toni I see Andy Cole when at Manchester United - even an average striker can score bags of goals when handed tonnes of opportunities. |

Lippi is back in charge of the Italian national side - nothing to do with public opinion then... |
