UEFA have named their 23 man squad of the tournament and have named Xavi as the star man. What do we all think? First thing I noticed was that only two dutch players made the squad! Gianluigi Buffon (Italy), Iker Casillas (Spain), Edwin van der Sar (Holland); Jose Bosingwa (Portugal), Philipp Lahm (Germany), Carlos Marchena (Spain), Pepe (Portugal), Carles Puyol (Spain), Yuri Zhirkov (Russia); Hamit Altintop (Turkey), Luka Modric (Croatia), Marcos Senna (Spain), Xavi (Spain), Konstantin Zyryanov (Russia), Michael Ballack (Germany), Cesc Fabregas (Spain), Andres Iniesta (Spain), Lukas Podolski (Germany), Wesley Sneijder (Holland); Andrei Arshavin (Russia), Roman Pavlyuchenko (Russia), Fernando Torres (Spain), David Villa (Spain). Surprised Lahm made it as he was a defensive liability. Otherwise no-one really stands out as a surprise. |

From that XXIII I'd put together for the best XI: Casillas Bosingwa Modric Sneijder |

Although im not nessersarily disagreeing with Cesc Fabregas' inclusion, but he did only start one game and played 352 minutes of a possible 540. Can he make such a big impact, to be named in the Top 23 players in the competition, having played only slightly more than half the time his team played? Personaly I think he did, but just throwing that out there to see what people think! |
